Let it Go

(A Lord of the Rings Parody)

(Frodo stands on the edge of the cliff in Mount Doom, holding the ring on its chain above the lava. He's scraped up, exhausted, and in a sort of trance.)

FRODO:

The fire glows bright in the mountain tonight. I have made it here at last.

The center of deep, dark Mordor. It is time to do my task.

There's lava deep below. I'd throw the Ring inside

But I can't give it up, heaven knows I've tried.

"Destroy the Ring." "They'll all be saved."

"Throw it in the once place it can be unmade."

No! It's mine. It calls to me.

It's taken me!

(The music stops.)

SAM: (Enters the mountain.) What are you waiting for?! Just let it go!

(The music starts again.)

Let it go, let it go!

You can't carry it anymore!

Let it go, let it go!

This is what we came here for!

From the Shire, hundreds of miles away!

Let the Ring be gone

We're too close to give up anyway.

(Frodo is still in a trance.)

SAM:

I've noticed you were weakening, it's been hard to avoid

How hard the Ring tortured you and drove you paranoid.

Complete this task or no one can, the fate of Middle Earth lies in our hands!

So don't be swayed by the enemy.

Trust me!

Let it go, let it go!

I've seen how hard you've tried!

Let it go, let it go!

Don't be seen by Sauron's eye!

We'll end this war, restore the light of day!

Let the Ring be gone.

(Frodo puts on the Ring and disappears. Gollum suddenly appears, knocks out Sam with a rock, jumps on Frodo, bites off his finger, and takes the Ring, triumphantly. And yes, in the 9 beats of instrumental.)

GOLLUM:

Without my precious, we're sad and all alone.

And now we've bit the hobbit's finger off, all flesh and bone.

The precious now is ours from here until the end.

We're never leaving it, even if it leads to deeeeeeeeeeaaath!

(The music stops. At the word "death", Frodo jumps up and tackles Gollum. They both fall over the edge of the cliff. Gollum sinks into the river of lava, while the Ring floats on top. Sam awakes and runs over to the edge to see Frodo hanging onto the cliff.)

SAM: (Reaches out his hand to Frodo.) Give me your hand!

(Frodo looks up at Sam, despondently. The music starts up again.)

SAM:

Don't let go, don't let go!

I see you want to end it all!

Don't let go, don't let go!

I'm not going to let you fall!

Don't be crushed by this dark dismay!

Now the Ring is GONE!

You're too close to give up anyway.

(The music ends.)

SAM: Reach!

(Frodo reaches up with his damaged hand. They grasp each other's hand. At the same time, the Ring sinks into the lava and is destroyed. Sauron is destroyed and Middle Earth is saved.)
