Inuyasha sniffed the air, his eyes scanning the forest sharply. He knew the kit was nearby. After Shippo had flung the spinning top at him on his head, knocking him down until it had spun out, the kit had immediately run off as fast as he could, laughing hysterically as he went. Once the top had shrunk and died Inuyasha was on his feet and after him. The kit was good, the hanyou had to admit. He could barely catch a whiff of him but his scent was still there. When Inuyasha found him, he was going to pound him good.

Shippo could barely contain his nervous excitement. He shook and giggled at having got one over on the unsuspecting Inuyasha. The kit had snuck up on him as he hopped out of Goshinboku and let his top fly, landing perfectly on the hanyou's head, effectively knocking him to the ground and keeping him there until the fox child could run away, as fast as he could. He hoped by scrambling up the nearest tree and running away through the treetops it would take longer for the hanyou to find him. So far he had been lucky. There had been no sign of his playmate and for the time being he was safe.

Inuyasha heard a nervous snicker coming from over his head and to his left. As he looked through the green leaves of the surrounding trees he caught s light glint of orange.

"Found you." Inuyasha growled menacingly.

In a flash he took to the trees and gave chase to a retreating Shippo, who squealed, "I'm sorry, Inuyasha! It was a joke! I didn't hurt you! Don't pound me!" At that last the kitsune lost his footing and fell plummeting to the earth. The hanyou dove down, catching him just in time.

"You ok, runt?" Inuyasha looked the kit over carefully.

"Yeah, I'm f-fine, Inuyasha. Thanks for saving me." The kit replied, shaken.

"No problem, runt. Let's head back." With that the two headed for Kaede's village.

"Aren't you going to pound me?" Shippo asked, a bit scared.

"Nope," came his answer, "At least, not today."

The hanyou patted the fox child on the head playfully and bounded off.

"Oh, no," thought Shippo, "I'm really going to get it now."
