Albus was in a hurry. In fact, he was in so much of a hurry, that he decided to use an obscure passage down to the kitchens, just to avoid the crowds. He was hungry, and knew that he had a meeting at dinner time, so, he was in a hurry. Slipping through the gap between a knight and a sculpture he began the very steep, winding descend into the kitchen.
Minerva, too, was hurrying, but for a different reason. She was hurrying towards the kitchen as she realized she should probably eat now, as she had skipped lunch and dinner was looking to be full instead with work. Changing to her cat form, she wriggled through the gap and began leaping nimbly down the stairs.
Albus heard someone else enter the corridor, but, as Minerva was a cat and her paws were covered in pads, he couldn't tell how close they were.
Minerva was nearing the bottom, and she could see Albus leaping down. She changed back right next to him, wanting to make herself known.
Albus got a fright. There was his deputy standing next to him. Stumbling slightly, he thought for a second he'd be fine, but the steps were narrow and, even as Minerva reached out to steady him, he could feel them both slipping down the stairs. Then bouncing, hard down the passage. Lying at the bottom, on top of Minerva, Albus suddenly realized that, as he had landed on her, she must be in great pain, as he was throbbing all over. Rolling off, he lay on the ground, panting slightly.
Minerva felt a weight roll off her, and the pain, but she didn't want to open her eyes, it would merely let her see the blood falling, and she could already feel it. Eventually deciding, however, that this wasn't getting anything done, she opened her eyes.
Albus was bending over her, a concerned look in his blue eyes, as her green eyes flashed open, he suddenly realized he didn't' want to loose her, not yet.
Minerva suddenly saw a flicker of something deep in his eyes, then it was gone, but she couldn't stop the answering look in her own.
And, at that moment, regardless of pain, and age, and timing issues, Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall fell in love.
They were in time for their meetings, but only just.
