Max rolled over in his bed to answer the phone. "Hello?" he said, sitting up in the bed. On the other end of the phone, Liz bit her lip.

"Max, um, it's Liz," she said into the phone.

"Liz? Is everything all right?" asked Max, alarmed. Liz hadn't called him since she'd "slept" with Kyle.
There was a long silence, then Max heard someone sigh loudly on.

"Spaceboy, my best friend here has a big problem," Maria told Max.

"What? What's happened?" asked Max, standing up. He stretched, then pulled on a t-shirt and jeans.

"She killed a mouse," Maria stated. Max rolled his eyes. But, then the thought of being with Liz to comfort her, made him eager to hear what had happened. Even if this was over some silly mouse caught in a mouse trap, at least Liz was going to Max, rather than Kyle.

When Max Evans arrived at the Crashdown, and Liz's apartment, Liz greeted him at the door. After looking around first, Liz touched Max's arm. A flash of the mouse and Liz's arm killing it startled Max. Liz nodded, unsure of what he would want to do.

"Let's go upstairs," he whispered. Liz followed him up to her room, careful not to move her arms to much. She was afraid if she did, one of the Crashdown customers would end up like the mouse still sitting in her room.

"I'm sorry, Max," she said suddenly. Max turned towards her, looking into her eyes.

"Liz, it's all right," he reassured her. They entered her room, and Liz showed him the small lifeless rodent. She hadn't moved it, because she knew Max would want to see it. And also, because she was just to scared.

"What does it mean, Max?" she asked. Max turned to her, his face pale.

"I don't know how, or why, Liz, but it seems that you're--"

"Liz, what's going on?" Liz's mom asked, popping her head into her daughter's bedroom. Liz jumped.

"Oh, we're just, um, Max had some lab homework he needed help with. We're just getting started early so he can go out with Tess later," Liz lied. Her mom bought and smiled.

"Okay, good to see you, Max," she told him. Max smiled.

"You too, Mrs. Parker," Max said. After she'd left, Max turned back to Liz, "I have to be honest, I'm not sure what to do."
