I sighed as I walked into the school on the reservation with the pack.

"What's the matter?" Jacob asked from beside me.

"It's the last day before summer vacation. After this we can all see our girls." He added with a smile on his face.

"Hell yeah! Plus there's actually going to be sun this summer!" Quil said giving Jake a hi-five.

"Guess so, but Leah's sick so I have to stay home with her," I said sadly.

"Oooh," everyone, except Sam, said in unison.

We didn't like Leah, and when she became a wolf and joined our pack, everyone had to put up with her and get along… or that's what Sam said anyway. He told her he's sorry for dumping her and going out with our cousin, Emily, but Leah doesn't believe him.

The pack stayed together and kept walking toward 'our' tree near the right side of school, which was nearer to the La Push beach – and the perimeter.

Some of the pack sat down under the tree, some leant against it and a few just stood around, like Sam, Jake, Embry and I.

Sam cleared his throat and began to speak.

"There's supposed to be one or two new students arriving today," Sam informed the pack. "I expect you to be nice and give them help when they need it today."

It was silent until Jake spoke up, "I thought I was the alpha now."

"Oh, right. Sorry. Go ahead," Sam said politely to Jake.

Jake looked at every one of our faces, one by one, before he shrugged and said, "Yeah, that's pretty much it."

We were all told our rounds for the breaks and for after school too before the bell rang.

Everyone got up and headed for their home group class… except me.

"You coming Seth? If we're late one more time this semester, Mr Tripes is going to give us detention. Remember?" Jake called back to me.

I nodded and quickly picked up the little shiny chain that I'd seen on the ground nearby and put it into my pocket.

I raced after Jake and walked into our home group class when he did which was just before the second bell went saying we were late.
