Deep down in my mind I knew he was going to back-sass and try something. I just didn't think it might be the last thing he'd ever do. My only regret is that I wasn't the one who pulled the trigger on the gun. If it had of been me I would have aimed for his head, putting him out of his misery faster. Rather than the shot Godfrey made and hit him through the neck, letting him bleed out all over the Captain's car. Disgusting way to go I think.

The escape was ingenious. Never would have thought of it myself. Taking the keys out of the other two trucks and driving off in the only truck with keys in it. Godfrey and I shot in vain at the truck, but to not avail. If I had of known that Luke was going to fucking run for it eventually, I might not have spared his life the last time I beat him with my cane. But I didn't know did I?

One the first anniversary marking the death of "Cool Hand Luke", the other guards and I agreed that we would take the whole gang to see the place of Luke's "last stand". Under our constant supervision Dragline told the exaggerate story of Luke being defiant to the end and not going down like a sissy. I just paced around making sure that none of the men got the same ideas Luke did and try to make a run for it.
Fortunately none of the men were brave enough to even think about making an escape, even though it would be the last chance they get before heading back to work in the morning. None the less Dog Boy had his dogs at the ready to chase any that made the leap.
Getting the men back to the camp was easier that I had expected. Boss Shorty call out to the men to get back to the trucks and the men got into orderly lines and hopped back into the trucks, not a defiant word out of them. I really don't give these men credit. No credit at all.
Author's Notes: Ok this is after the pervious FF and it's a little while after the first.
