I lied

A perfect, peaceful sunset, a stroll around the lake during the early night, followed by a candlelit dinner, all paid for by the man she spent her afternoon with.

Not even a "troublesome" had come out of his mouth.

They ate in relative silence, disturbed only by the occasional talk between them.

Temari liked it, but she knew that something was up.

"Alright, Nara." She said after a while. "You've been agreeing with me, paying for me, and listening without contradicting me. What's wrong?"

Shikamaru looked up. "What, can't I just treat you to something nice every once in a while, especially seeing as you'll be heading home after tonight?"

Temari put down her cutlery. "Nice try, but you haven't done it before, and I doubt you would do it now, not without a reason."

He sighed. "Yeah your right, Temari. There is something."

He paused. "Will you marry me?"

Temari's jaw slacked. "What? Um Shikamaru I don't, um you see-"

Shikamaru started laughing. "I'm sorry," he said as he calmed down a little. "I lied. That's not why I did this."

she slapped him. "Don't scare me like that, dammit."

"Sorry." He chuckled.

She sighed. "Well? What's the deal with this then?"

Shikamaru raised his eyebrow. "You just can't let me say that I felt like treating you out, can you?"

"No."

"Alright." Shikamaru sighed. "I have something to do tomorrow, and it's kind of at the top of my priority list."

"Oh," Temari said, disappointed. She knew what was coming next.

"So it means I can't see you off in the morning. Sorry."

"It's alright," she said.

Temari looked up into the sky. "It's getting late, and I have to leave tomorrow."

"Yeah, it is."

She gave him a quick kiss. "Goodbye Shikamaru."

"Goodnight."

She wanted to leave early, as there was nothing stopping her from doing so.

With a final check, she began her walk to the gate, only to find a figure waiting for her outside the hotel.

She looked at him surprised. "I thought you said you had something important to do."

He walked over to her. "I lied."

He kissed her. "Nothing is more important than being with you."

She smiled, blushing.

As they began walking she looked at him. "Does that mean...?"

Shikamaru nodded.

"Told you I just felt like treating you out."
