Roxas couldn't remember the last time he'd seen the sun.

It felt as if he'd been wandering there in the darkness of Sora's heart for years, never seeing light except for the few times that he'd landed on his Somebody's heart platform. There had to be more light than that – this was Sora, after all – but wherever it was, Roxas couldn't find it. All he could see was infinite blackness, stretching on as far as his vision would allow. He had been subjected to black so long that he couldn't remember what color looked like. Well, he knew that he had blonde hair and blue eyes and that his best friend had red hair and green eyes, but he couldn't recall what blue and red and green looked like.

Roxas…

The boy looked around. Had he heard someone say his name? He stood stock-still, ears perked up, searching for the sound. But there was nothing. It was still as silent as always. Just when he was beginning to wonder if it had just been his imagination, he heard it again. Roxas, are you there?

Sora was calling to him.

Raising his head high, the Nobody called out, "I'm here." His voice was hoarse from months – or was it years? – of disuse. Clearing his throat, he repeated, "I'm right here, Sora!"

For a few moments, there was no response, and Roxas' heart, which had momentarily lifted at the sound of his Somebody's voice, sunk back down to his toes. Sighing, he hugged his arms to his chest and closed his eyes, head hanging in defeat. He was never going to get out, was he? He'd never see Axel or Namine again, or even just the sun, or the sky.

But then… he sensed something outside his eyelids. Slowly, his eyes cracked open, and he gasped at the sight he beheld.

Ahead of him, he saw a door – like a Dark Corridor, but bursting with light instead of swirling with darkness. The light illuminated his hands, allowing him to stare down at the ghostly flesh in fascination. The ground below his feet was bursting with color; reds and blues, greens and yellows, even oranges and purples. Looking closer, he realized why. That "floor" was really his own heart platform.

His own-!

Which had to mean… somehow, he was separating from Sora.

The voice echoed through the air, vibrating through Roxas' entire body. Roxas, it whispered, come back. Please…

His lips twitched upwards into a small smile. He started towards the strange "Light Corridor", but just then, he felt someone grab his wrist – not in a 'don't-go-through-there-it-isn't-safe-way', but in a 'wait-for-me-I-want-to-go-too' way. Blue eyes shifted to the right, wanting to see who was there. A pair of similar blue eyes locked with his, making him smile even wider.

"Xion." She looked at him, her eyes lit up by the glow of the corridor. Unlike the last time he had seen her, limp and dying, her face was radiating an intense joy and hope that her friend had never seen the likes of before. Standing there as she was, gripping his hand, looking ahead, she looked more alive than he had ever seen her before. Grinning like a moron, Roxas squeezed her hand. "You coming?"

"Am I ever," she replied, wearing a similar grin. "Wouldn't want to keep Axel waiting, would we?"

In spite of himself, Roxas laughed, which made little sense, as what she had said wasn't funny at all, but Xion joined in anyway. Gripping each other's wrists, they ran towards and through the door, allowing themselves to be swallowed by the pulsing light.
