Author's Notes: Just another meaningless drabbled inspired by LO:CI episode, "Amends." I don't think Alex's sister's name has ever been mentioned on the show, so I'm calling her Jill (because that's what I've named her in my story). Hopefully, this is not too OOC for Alex. Anyway, all LO:CI characters belong to Dick Wolf and company, I'm just taking them for a spin in my imagination. Any and all mistakes are mine. Read, review and enjoy. :o)
Alex Eames' Home
5:55 a.m.
Alex was sitting on the couch as she sighed, wiping the tears away from her eyes. She slowly flipped through the photo album laying in her lap. It held the honeymoon pictures of her and Joe in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She smiled as she ran her hand over the picture of Joe making a funny face, his eyes crossed and his tongue stuck out. He used to always make those faces to make Alex laugh when he thought she was being too serious.
Alex knew she should have been taking a quick nap, but she also knew that sleep was going to elude her for a little while. At least until she and Goren had caught the person who had shot and killed Kevin Quinn, her late husband's partner. She sighed heavily again as the tears continued rolling down her cheeks. When Joe had died, Alex didn't know how she could handle coming home to an empty house or being a widow. She used to dislike the looks of pity people gave her when they offered their condolences, but in time she got used to it. Alex used to think about Joe all the time, especially as the 1st anniversary of his death approached. She managed to get through that day just fine. As the years passed, she found that the pain of Joe's death had slowly subsided and that she thought about him occasionally. But now with Kevin's death, her memories of Joe came back hard to fill her mind again. "Dammit, Alex! Get a grip before you drive yourself crazy," she thought chidingly to herself.
A knock on the door interrupted Alex's thoughts. She stood up, placed the album on the coffee table and walked over to the door. She looked through the peephole, smiling as she realized who it was. It was her sister Jill. Alex unlocked the door and opened it. Jill smiled and wiped away her tears as she looked at her big sister. "Hey, Alex." "Hey, Jill. Everything okay?" Alex asked as she stepped aside to let her in. She closed the door and locked it. "Everything's good," Jill replied as she turned to look at Alex. Jill held out her hands to Alex, who took them in hers.
Alex and Jill stood there in the middle of the floor looking at each other, holding hands, smiling and crying. "I'm sorry," Jill said, "I was being a total idiot." Jill and Alex had gotten into a small argument yesterday afternoon. Jill had complained that Alex was spending too much time at work and not enough time with the family. Alex had snapped back at Jill that as much as she wanted to spend time with her family, her job would always interfere with quality family time.
Alex shook her head. "You don't owe me an apology. I shouldn't have snapped at you like I did. I'm sorry." Jill shrugged as she smiled. "How about we agree that we were both being idiots?" Alex nodded her head as she stepped closer to Jill to give her hug. Jill stepped back and took Alex's hands in her hands. "After hearing about that police officer getting shot and killed, I realized that I should thank you," she said quietly through her tears. "Thank me? For what?" Alex asked, a puzzled look on her face. "For two very important things: for risking your life everyday to protect this city from the bad guys, and for willing to give life to my son."
