"Merely a Dream"

The sounds of gunshots made him run faster. As he turned the corner, he saw something that would remain with him forever. Riza, his Riza, lying on the ground, her blood pooling around her. Two men stood near her, guns pointed out. Still running, the alchemist snapped his fingers. The two gunmen burst into flames.

He ran over to Hawkeye, hesitating slighty before he knelt down by her.grabbing her hand, he said, "Lieutenant Hawkeye?"

Her eyes slowly gazed up to his. "Colonel," she forced out

Mustang put a finger to her lips. "Don't talk. Save your breath." He looked around in hope of finding someone. "Don't worry, Hawkeye. We'regonna help you. You're going to be okay."

Looking up at her superior, Hawkeye slowly shook her head. "No, it's too late." Blood was trickling out of the corner of her mouth. She coughed and even more oozed out.

Mustang took of his jacket and held in on her wounds. He stared into her eyes. They looked so empty, so dead. He was scared. He could tell by the look in her eyes that she was falling. She was slipping away. "Hawkeye, stay with me,"

A small noise escaped from her lips.

"DammitRiza Don't leave me!"

"Roy," she choked out

"I love you, Riza. Don't go." Tears began to fill the man's eyes.

Squeezing his hand, she said, "I love you too, Roy."

The alchemist felt her grip loosen. Her eyes rolled back as her eyelids shut.

She was dead.

Roy jerked awake. Sweat poured down his face. Breathing heavily, he looked to the woman sleeping next to him. The blonde, the sniper, his subordinate, his wife. He lay down in bed, wrapping his arms around her warm body. He kissed her neck and smiled when a soft moan escaped from her. He kissed her again as he closed his eyes. It was only a dream, he though, only a dream.
