She felt alone. Ever since Wally had died everything had gone to shit. People were constantly giving her pitying looks and she was sick of it; the fake smiles, laughter and celebration. Why were they celebrating? Wally was dead. They just didn't care. Her teammates gave her melancholy looks like they understood what she was going through. But, how could they? She had lost the love of her life.
Wally's death had also made her realise that the criminals would just keeping coming, whereas heroes like Jason or Wally were left to rot in the ground. It was unfair and anger burned inside her. Why should they live when heroes like Wally died. Batman and the Justice League were a bunch of hypocrites. They pretended to try to help other people, but really they couldn't even take care of their own. If she hit the criminals just a bit too hard, then she would get a lecture. They were scum! Who cared about them anyway? They were all either rapists or paedophiles or even murderers and drug dealers. People who hurt children. They needed to kill them off not try to save them.
She had heard about a guy calling himself the Red Hood. He certainly had the right idea. By killing the lowlife scum of Gotham city, crime rates had dropped dramatically. Everyone was scared of him. Hell, she would soon join him in eradicating them. The team didn't have a clue. Nightwing (or Dick she found out) had gone back to Bludhaven like the coward that he was. He was just like Batman- even though he pretended otherwise. A boy playing at being hero. Not that she was one: she stopped trying to be a hero the moment that the Justice League forbade her from going after the Reach to avenge Wally. Personally, she was relieved not to be confined anymore. Her father was right, what point was there for being a hero? She definitely wasn't one.
Red Hood had recently contacted her, she was happy to accept. After all, she would need some help to get rid of the Reach and all the other scumbags of Gotham. It was a new day. No longer was she lost in the emptiness...
Thanks for reading! Please try and review. I just felt that, in season 3, Artemis's feelings concerning Wally's death were not fully explored. I thought that Artemis might definitely become some sort of anti-hero. But oh well... This is a one-shot that sets up Artemis's backstory for when she joins Red Hood. Don't worry, I'll also be writing another one-shot from Red Hood's point of view.
