"Well kids…" Ted said. "Your mother was the best thing that happened to me. The best moments of my life were with her."
In front of him were his kids, Penny and Luke.
Now the year 2045, Ted sits in his chair with gray hair and wrinkled skin looking at his family. Penny, is now in a stable relationship and Luke is married and has a son, they sit and look at their father's happiness as he recounts the tale of how he met their mother.
"Dad… how many more times are you going to tell us this story?" Luke asks.
Ted smiles and says "As many times as possible." while he laughs.
"Kids…" Ted says "You have all grown up."
"But dad…" Penny asks. "Why didn't you find anyone else? I mean mom has been gone for almost 10 years now."
"Because kids…sometimes nothing can replace the ones you love. I know your mother too well. I know she would want me to go out there and find someone. But…" Ted says with a heavy heart.
"It's funny how life works. There are people like your uncle Marshall and aunt Lilly, who in an instant knew they were meant for each other and they knew it from the start. Even today they are just as happy as they always were. Then there's your uncle Barney and aunt Robin, who took time to realize how much they love each other. A few bad breaks and even a divorce, no matter how it was today they are together. Robin even adopted Barneys daughter and they couldn't be happier."
"And what about you, dad?" Luke asked.
"Me…" Ted looked at them both "I was able to spend the best moments of my life with the woman I love. I was able to do so much with her, get married, have a family... and now…even though she's gone…I know in my heart she's still with me. And for that I couldn't be happier."
Luke and Penny's eyes fill with tears and they hug their father.
"Don't feel sorry for me kids. I had the best life… the best girl, best friends and even the best kids." Like and Penny smile and they hug again.
As it was getting late, Ted's kids bid him goodnight and leave the house. There Ted was, alone in his big house. As he walked around he remembered many happy moments he spent with his wife. He then goes to his room and sits on his bed. A picture of his wife is on the night stand next to him. He picks up his late wife's photo and smiles. "I miss you." he mutters. As he says this he pictures his wife sitting next to him. She sits there and smiles. He smiles back as she puts her hand on his. As a tear runs down his cheek as he smiles. He then puts the picture next to him as he lies down and goes to sleep. The smile on his face shows he's thinking of his wife. As his kids drive home, they discuss about their late mother and their father well-being. They both smile as they know how much their father loves their mother, and her memories give him strength to live his remaining days to the fullest.
