His gaze seemed to pierce dimensions.
They knew he was watching. Waiting. Waiting for that fated time to come.
They also knew they couldn't, shouldn't, stop it – shouldn't stop the events that would unfold from unfolding as they had. Despite all the sacrifices it had taken. Despite all the sadness and tragedy it had brought.
Things needed to go their predestined way. That battle, that long struggle, had only served to prove that in the end.
And prove that it was impossible to defy that as well.
Though his gaze was still ignorant. Unlike them he had not moved back in time, or been reborn. The story would begin with him, and end with them.
They could feel him watching, waiting for that fated time that was almost upon all of them.
