"Du duh. Du duh. Du duh." The sound of beating hearts flooded Rosalie's ears, and the smell of so much blood caused venom to pool in her mouth. Even though her record was clean; Rosalie's body yearned for the pure human blood that currently surrounded her. It was only her faithfulness to Emmett and her own self-image that restrained her from taking the mere human lives.

For about the millionth time, Rosalie wondered if what she was about to do was right. She was a vampire; in the middle of a busy hospital, going to look at infants and toddlers and dream of the life she may have had, if not for Royce.

"No!" Rosalie spoke aloud forcefully. "I refuse to pollute my thoughts with that!" She then realized that the nurses were staring as she had shouted the last part. Muttering her apologies, she made her way to the window of the maternity ward.

Rosalie gasped, entranced. There they were. Gorgeous innocent infants and toddlers that she could hold for at least a little while, and dream that they were hers; as Henry was Vera's.

Oh, Henry. Henry, the gorgeous boy who made her fall in love with motherhood and who gave her the strength to save Emmett from the grizzly.

What she would not give to hold, nurture and caress a child, to sink into human simplicity, to have had Emmett not Royce, and to have had the family and house that she once dreamed of.

Rosalie closed her eyes and listened intently. Since she found no humans (other than the infants) in the vicinity, she slipped into the maternity ward at vampire speed.

"Stunning" Rosalie whispered. She flitted over to an adorable little boy, who bore resemblance to Henry. Stooping, she cradled him in her arms and gasped as he reached up to toy with her long blond locks.

The gorgeous boy opened his eyes wide, blinked and gave an award-winning smile, complete with dimples.

"Momma" He whispered and, for the first time in many years, Rosalie felt whole. Nothing, not even her lack of heartbeat or ice-cold skin, could take away this feeling inside of her.
