The Pierce
I never wanted to get my ears pierced, because I never understood why people wanted little useless things hanging from their ears. One day, my parents bought me a huge fed and white lollipop and a brand new watch. They also took me shopping for Christmas presents. I was happy all day- especially since it was winter, my favorite season-until those seven unpleasant words blurted out of my mom's mouth: "You are getting your ears pierced today!"
I looked at my parents and my stolid expression must have remained a long time because it was all silent. "Uh," I said, coming up with a lie, "I have a lot of stuff to do!" My parents raised their eyebrows doubtfully.
"No you don't. You're getting your ears pierced today no matter what excuse you come up with!" My brain boiled fiercely, like cookies burning from being overcooked. But since they were my parents and whatever they said went that way, I was forced to give in.
My parents and I went to a jewelry shop in Flushing. The bright lights were as blinding as streetlights on a dark night. A scary looking man was holding a black, rusty gun next to a leather chair and my parents picked out these silver studs that I didn't get a good look at. I watched impatiently as my parents and the man joked and talked like long lost friends. When they were finally done talking, it was then that I realized that there was no turning back.
I sat on the warm, cozy chair and couldn't help feeling like a useless puppy in a foreign country, being very afraid and cautious.
"Getting your ears pierced today, eh?" the obese man boomed like a giant in an empty house. Not knowing what to say, I muttered, "Uh, yeah." The lights shined like the sun on a beach on my face, while the man used a marker to draw a black dot on each ear. I gulped, feeling dizzy and uneasy as the man pointed the gun to me. My hands felt like they were being dipped in buckets of water as my hands squeezed the chair. I closed my eyes and starred into the blackness while the man grabbed my ear and...
Boom! The exploding sound was like the shooting of a gunshot and was very loud. After my other ear was pierced, I realized that even though ear piercing may seem scary, it really isn't. In fact, it doesn't even hurt!
