My road to faith

I have been a Christian for almost as long as I remember but that was because my mum always brought me along to Church, I never really understood what was going on and I hit a load of snags along the way, some were easily sorted out while some, well lets just say it took me a while to sort those ones out, but I got through them eventually.

Being a Christian automatically made me feel like the odd one out and that's even when I hadn't told anyone, when I became a verbal one though that's when it started getting a little ugly, with name calling and such but I got through those times too…. And the one thing that was a constant through those times, was a tiny thought in the back of my mind, just an unconscious presence that you just couldn't help but remember when something was going wrong. At this point in time, I really needed something that I could hold on to, I'd hit the major turning point in my life. I'd finally witnessed death in close proximity losing both my Gran and Pappy in a three month interval. I needed something in my life if just to shout at, to place blame but in the end he still loved me and every time I needed him, God was beside me every step of the way. I never really thought about that much until I went to Methodist Youth Assembly a couple of years ago…. This is an activity, where young Methodists from the ages of 8-23 from everywhere across Britain including Anglesey and the Isle of Man meet up and have fun while regenerating and meeting loads of new friends. When I went it was unbelievable, I had never met so many people that shared my views on religion before…. It seemed almost unreal. That was where I got my first real glimpse of what being a Christian is really about… It's not about sitting in a stuffy Church for an hour on a Sunday or reading out of a book a gajillion years old… It's about being family…. Loving your neighbour regardless of what they have done….. Its about feeling a connection with someone and loving life just the way it is but most importantly is too have fun while you do it. I will never forget my weekend at Youth Assembly because that was where I first really met my best friend, one that would always be there for me… Jesus….. You couldn't see him but you could just tell he was there and he was loving it.
