Stars Fading...

"Hello, Tai Kamiya speaking..."

"Hi Tai, its Sora..."

"I'm not at home right now, so leave a message after the beep. beep"

Sora sighed softly, disappointed. She hung up and crawled into bed. "There's always tomorrow..." she said in a half sigh, half murmur.

But what if there was no tomorrow?

Come on, oh my star is fading,
And I swerve out of control,
If I, if I'd only waited,
I'd not be stuck here in this hole

Tai, sitting dangerously on the edge of the balcony stared out into the night sky.

Come here, oh my star is fading,
And I swerve out of control,
And I swear, I waited and waited,
I've got to get out of this hole

One star interested him the most. It was bright, outshining all of the millions of stars in the sky. It was like a happy glimmer in a world of sadness and wrong.

But time is on your side, its on your side, now
Not pushing you down, and all around,
It's no cause for concern

This star, he didn't know why it troubled him so. It reminded him of someone. He clutched his head in frustration. No, he was not to think of her. Please, not at a time like this...

Come on, oh my star is fading,
And I see no chance of release,
And I know I'm dead on the surface,
But I am screaming underneath

Tai looked down; the ground was dangerously far away. Whoever jumped would... this concept quickened Tai's heartbeat. He slid even closer to the edge. Just one more inch... but something stirred in his consciousness... a girl with crimson eyes, on a night like this...

And time is on your side, its on your side, now
Not pushing you down, and all around,
No it's no cause for concern

Flashback

A tapping sound coming from the balcony of his room awoke little 6-year-old Tai from his slumber. Back then, Sora was his neighbor and her rooms' balcony was right next to Tai's so she could easily crawl over. And sure enough there she was.

Tai wrenched the door open. "Sora, what are you doing here." He noticed that Sora had tearstains on her cheeks. "Sora! Why were you crying?" his innocent little heart grieving over the unknown sorrow of his beloved friend.

She took his hand. "Tai, I had a dream that you were older, and you were about to fall off your balcony. I tried to pull you away, but you wouldn't come back and you fell..." fresh tears rolled down her rosy cheeks.

"Don't worry Sora, I promise I won't purposely fall off the balcony." When his friend still didn't look convinced, he added, "I won't even sit near the balcony edge, okay?" Sora's tearful face finally broke into a smile. "Deal!"

End Flashback

Stuck on the end of this ball and chain,
And I'm on my way back down again,
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose,
Sick to the stomach

Why was this memory affecting his so much? A simple childhood promise. Sora had broke many promises, should he have the right to break one? Suddenly, the bright star shimmered and winked, filling Tai full of understanding. Then, Tai felt a jerk on his arm and he fell backwards onto the patio. A familiar voice whispered, "You promised Tai! Don't you dare break it?"

You can say what you mean,
But it won't change a thing,
I'm sick of the secrets,
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose,
And you came along and you cut me loose,
You came along and you cut me loose,
You came along and you cut me loose

Tai gasped for breath as fear took over him. A few minutes ago, had he really been thinking of ending his life?

Ding Dong

Tai pulled himself up, half thinking on what had happen and partly thinking of who would come by at this hour.

Tai opened the door and...

"Sora?"
