Chapter One Post-Recovery

Holly's P.O.V

To think of all that's happened so far I've certainly come a long way. Too much excitement, adventure, and tragedy for a young Captain's heart, for the most part it was worth it. Of course we could have all done without the whole Opal Koboi and Briar Cudgeon brouhaha. Well at least that's behind us now. I admit that bringing down that pixie was much more difficult than I had expected. It's safe to say that if it weren't for Artemis Fowl the world would be engaged in a bloody cross-species war right now. Opal was cunning, deceptive, determined and intelligent, but she lacked one vital thing that Artemis had: loyal companions. I sighed as I rummaged through the masses of paperwork. Being Commander was pretty tedious these days. I missed going up to the surface and inhaling the fresh crisp air. My thoughts were interrupted by a curt knocking on my office's Plexiglas doors.

"Come in." I said not bothering to look up and see who it was through the transparent doors.

The doors slid open with a gentle hiss.

"Good morning Commander, looking lovely today as usual."

I sighed at Chix Verbil's routine morning statement.

"Captain, need I keep on reminding you to keep a professional tone in this office?"

"Of course commander." He said straightening up.

"Just a few papers to be signed and things to be approved by you."

"Leave them at my desk."

"Will do m'lady, have a wonderful day." He said leaving my office, but not before sparing me a wink. Sprites, flying epitomes of Narcissism. I looked over to the pile of paperwork and began my seemingly never ending tasks.

Artemis's P.O.V

A fierce foe, but pathetic nonetheless, pathetic only because she lost. Of course she lost, did Opal actually think she could beat me? I remember having many a good laugh over her naivety. I am a Fowl. I never lose; I never go unavenged. Credit must go to my friends also, especially to Captain Holly short – well Commander now I should say. Her military techniques were most rewarding. That kleptomaniac dwarf saved our hides on more than one occasion. Ahh…Butler of course, my old friend, of without which I would not even be alive now. Foaly played a large role also, I suppose.

"Sir, you've held that pensive look to you for a while, everything okay in there?"

Butler said referring to my thoughts.

"Of course Butler, it's just this retched Atlantic complex. It's making me think quite random thoughts during conversations. I can't complain, this was expected. True the doctors in Haven helped cure me but never completely." I replied

"I can tell. Your sentences seem…strangely worded."

I simply nodded, acknowledging his statement. I got up from…

Foaly's P.O.V

If that mudboy thinks I'm letting him get away with snatching all of my credit then he's wrong. Throughout all the years of my involvement with the Artemis Fowl Affairs I have contributed more than anyone else. My patented designs and interventions have revolutionized modern security. Not to mention that it is because of my intentions the Fairy species has not been discovered by barbarians yet. It's always Artemis this, Artemis that, Artemis's brains got us out of this. Yeah? Well what about my brains? Where did that go? I have been contributing my time, energy, and countless research decades before that pesky little mudboy even came into existence. I show him. I'll show them all.
