Yeah, this is just an idea that popped up in my head one day (the again everyone on this site seems to say that). Peeta kills Katniss, I'm sure people have done this before but oh well. This is my first try at a fanfiction but don't go too easy on me, I want to improve my writing so constructive criticism of any kind is welcome. I just started writing this but if people like it I'll continue the story.
Just a disclaimer; I don't own the Hunger Games because if I did I probably wouldn't be killing off the main character
Cato lay dead on the ground. Well, at least what was left of Cato did. After the mutations had ripped him to shreds with their claws and teeth, parts of his body laid scattered on the grass covered with blood. It was not a pretty sight but somehow I could not look away. Pain from the tight grip he had once held on my neck- before he fell to his death- was staring to fade away. I coughed blood onto my mud covered hand. My mind was blank, till the boom sound indicating a tribute has fallen snapped me back to reality.
"We've won Peeta!" Katniss exclaimed "We get to go-"but her happiness was short lived. She was quickly interrupted by the booming voice of the announcer as he declared; "Another change of rules has taken place. Only one tribute can win. That is all." It can't be. Her cheerful face molted into a look of disbelief.
"Only one winner?" I thought, we have been pretending to be in love all this time, helping each other survive against the odds, and for what? They're still going to let us die? Curse the capital! I bet the citizens of the capital are edge of their seats, all they want is a good show, hasn't this been enough? Then again, it would not hurt to give then one last surprise. I reached into my pocket and took out a small knife. "Peeta, what are you-" but before she got to finish her sentence I had already stabbed her in the stomach. Her blood dripped down the dagger and onto my hand. She stumbled to the side till I got a grip on her and laid her to rest on the ground.
Lying still in a pool of her own blood, she whispered my name one last time then, exhaled her last breath.
