Run!
by *JessicaWhoCouldEndTheWorld

A.N: So, I wrote this for the Tumblr Doctor Who Prompt Challenge. I am not the only one doing the challenge but I think it'll be a lot of fun! What it involves is that I will get a screenshot & a title, and I have to write a oneshot about it. (This one's just a drabble :p) The challenge is closed now, but I will be writing more that 1 story for it. Also please know that English isn't my first language so I might have mistakes! – Jessica

New York, New York
February 1927

They're backed into the corner of the showgirl's dressing room backstage of the New Amsterdam Theater, and in the back-ground they can hear the sound of cheerful 1920s music, a song called Manhattan. The Doctor and Rose meant to go and see a real Ziegfeld show. Instead, the Doctor decided to investigate some weird noises they heard coming from backstage and that's why instead of sitting in the theater's seats they are pressed into a corner with a huge, alien slug-creature inching its way towards them

Rose is thinking: she has no idea how they're going to get out of this. The slug-creature's warped gurgling noise is going to make her go insane if she has to hear it a minute longer. She is so terrified, but doesn't tell the Doctor. But then his hand grabs hers and it is warm. It fits so perfectly between her fingers, and even though they might die any second, she still can't help but stroke the back of his hand and the veins that stick out. They make her body tingle. But he's got a grip on her hand, and right now he turns to her and he says, just like his first words to her were. "Run!"

Rose spins on him. "What? Where do we run to?!" Her hazel eyes widen in annoyance. "We're cornered in case ya didn't notice!"

He reaches into his pocket as the slug-creature comes near. He pulls out his Sonic and points it at a hidden door, the lock clicks open, and he and Rose push the door open, fall through the doorway, and close it quickly behind them. They're in a hallway now somewhere between the stage and the dressing rooms. They must be closer to the stage because the music is louder. Feathery and provocative costumes are scattered everywhere and are hanging on hooks and off shelves along the walls. Rose rubs at her face and she looks up. Her hazel eyes meet his blue ones and they look at each other, panting and grinning.

"That was fantastic," Rose says with a grin, and he grins too and says,

"Oi! That's my word!"

They're interrupted by the slug-creature banging its slimy body against the hidden door. Rose releases a frightened yelp as it hits against the door again and she can see a dent forming. The Doctor grabs her hand again. "Okay," he says, "now run."

She takes his hand and they do run down the hallway, where they reach some double doors. Kicking these open, they find themselves outside, and they stumble to a slowed-down stop, panting again. They tip back their heads together and laugh, laugh, laugh.

Rose is thinking: This happens every time, but it's never gonna get old.
