Tahno was cool.
Was being the emphasis, the overbearing truth in his life. It was now evident everyday when he woke up that he was a slimy loser who's entire worth had been a sport he cheated at. And now he was just that loser with no bending, who cheated his way to victory when he did have it. It was a deep and disgusting punishment to have to see himself everyday in the mirror.
She had been the cool one all along. Pretty, powerful- the avatar. And in his darkest nights now he clung to that power. She was his comfort, his yearning for her unnatural and just as disgusting as the shell he was now.
He saw her every now and then, mostly when he was eating. For awhile she was always in the company of one of her fire ferret friends. Her attraction to the firebender was astounding, but jealousy for that issue was beyond Tahno. He was only jealous of other benders nowadays. And well, he'd squandered any sorry chance he had of being in the Avatar's good graces.
But one day she sat by him. And then another, and another. Never patting him on the back or feeling sorry for him, always making the same joke and treating him like the jerk he had always been before. And then one day so long after all the others, she turned to him with a different look.
"You're not so bad once you've been knocked down a peg or two," and her face had a smile. Captivating, something never meant for him. Now it was for some strange reason. She hadn't had the greatest time either, though, recently. Thanks to Amon and Tarrlok she had it pretty rough. He smirked his cocky, disgusting smirk, and then frowned suddenly. After a moment of her looking at him, he finally spoke.
"You either...Avatar," he said with as much sincerity as he could muster.
