Yumi's Gift

A long jet black little girl ran to the swings not with a care in the world. Her father just watched her.
"She looks like her more everyday." A pink hair woman said as she walked up to the chocolate hair guy.
"I know. I just can't believe she is gone." The chocolate hair guy said.
"I know. It is so sad that poor little Serena Marie will never know her mother. I just can't believe Xana killed her mother as soon as Serena was born."
"Xana wanted Serena, and Yumi tried to protect her the best she can."
"I know, Ulrich. I didn't mean it to sound uncaring. I miss Yumi, and I know it is hard on you. It is hard on all of us. I bet it is hard on Serena too."
"What do you mean?"
"She is growing up without a mother. I bet she wonders why too. I know she is only six years old, but she wants to know. She came to me sometimes asking about her mother. She needs to know, Ulrich."
"I know, Aelita, but how do I tell her about her mother? Every time I want to tell her, I break down."
"I know it hurts, but she needs to know about her mother."
"Ok, I will tell her."
"Good."
(That evening)
Serena climbed onto Ulrich's lap. She was in her nightgown.
"Serena, I think you should know about your mother." Ulrich said as he grabbed a book off the table next to him. He opened it up. Serena looked at the pictures.
"Daddy? Why does that lady look like me?" Serena asked as she looked at Ulrich.
"That is your mother, Yumi. In a lot of ways, you are just like her. I loved your mother so much, and when a evil virus named Xana killed her, I was lost."
"I know the story about you and everyone who fought against Xana, daddy. Aunt Aelita told me about it. She said that mommy die protecting me."
"Oh, what else she told you?"
"She told me that mommy saved me because I'm hers and yours little angel."
"Serena, I wish I was like your mom."
"You are, daddy."
"My only gift is to make sure you are safe. I wish your mother can be here to be with us to see how much you have grown."
"She is, daddy. She is with us. She is watching over us. That is her gift for us. She is watching over us."
Ulrich couldn't believe it. Serena is right. Yumi was watching over them. That was her gift to them. Watching over them forever until they meet again.
