A/N1: I wanted to write a short on-the-spot one shot at school because I was extremely bored. So I did!!! It might stay a one shot, or it might be continued. It depends on how many reviews I get!!! (And on how inspired I am at the moment!!) Please R&R!!!
Disclaimer: Harry Potter is not mine and it never will be!!!
Lily's restless steps wore a path in front of the fire in the Gryffindor common room. The area was devoid of people, except for the anxious red head who was pacing, waiting, and worrying. She'd been there for a while, you could tell. Other then the faint lines of worry and desperation gracing her delicate features, there were enormous bags under her eyes.
It was apparent that she hadn't slept a wink. Her normally sleek and shiny red hair was dull and tousled; and her enchanting emerald eyes that usually gleamed with intelligence and mirth were lifeless and unexpressive. Regularly, Lily would try to retire to bed by 11 o'clock at the latest, to ensure at least a partial night of sleep. Although tonight, she was still up and it was past 2 am. But there was a good reason as to her behavior; tonight there was a full moon.
Her boyfriend, James Potter and his friends were unregistered Animagi, out on a full moon escapade with Remus Lupin, a fellow Marauder who was currently a werewolf. Lily trusted Remus implicitly, but she could never be too sure. Even with James as a stag, Sirius as a shaggy black dog, and Peter as a rat, to keep him in line, he could still ally slip up and injure someone. Grief overtook her and she collapsed on the couch with her head in her hands.
A sudden creak of the door startled her and made her look up, but nobody was there. Lily smiled in relief; she knew that it was just the Marauders, minus Remus of course, hiding under James' invisibility cloak, returning from their nighttime journey. Lily heard a muffled "oh!" and knew that James had seen her. A couple seconds later, she heard two sets of footsteps clomping up to the boys' dormitories whom she assumed to be Sirius and Peter. Less than a minute later, her suspicions were confirmed, when James plopped on the couch beside her and smiled; waiting for the emotional outburst that he knew was sure to come. Lily paused for a second before releasing the tears and thoughts that she'd been holding in since the Marauders the common room to supposedly "play a prank on the Slytherins".
"James!" she sobbed clinging to his shirt. "I was so worried, I didn't know what to expect. What if you'd gotten hurt?? What if you weren't able to come back? I don't know what I would have done!"
"It's ok Lily; remember, the other Marauders and I have done this for years now." He said comfortingly.
"But still..." She hiccoughed, her face buried into his chest.
"It's ok Lily." He repeated, rubbing small circles on her back. "It's ok." Soon, James heard Lily's soft even breathing, and felt the grip on his shirt lighten. She'd fallen asleep. He placed a light kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight Lily." He whispered.
"I love you." The last part he murmured so softly, that it would be inaudible to anyone but Lily, if she were awake. He pulled her closer to him and fell into a deep sleep, exhausted from keeping Remus in check. Lily's emerald eyes opened, sparkling with unshed tears.
"I love you too James." He didn't stir.
A/N2: So…what did you think??? It was very short, but I liked it. Please review, but no flames!!
