They tell him his name is Colin Hart. He has no choice but to believe them. They say they are his parents and they love him, that he was in the dark for almost half a year.

Nothing about them is familiar. He remembers words and what they mean, he knows how to talk—but not another single thing. They have pictures and he recognizes his face, but no one else's. They mention people and places, assure him he is their son.

But he can't remember.

Amnesia. He knows that word: not whole. Incomplete. The disappointment is obvious on their faces.

He doesn't remember his life or his family or his friends. They say his name is Colin, that it'll all come back with time.

He doesn't feel like Colin. He feels empty. It's so hard, all the things he can't remember, all the memories lost.

Sometimes, when the woman who says she is his mother cries, he wishes he'd stayed in the dark.
