A\N: So this is a short little one-shot that I got inspired to write from spending a lot of time recently with my dad. Like I said it's short. Anyways R&R! :)
The faint glow of the fire that was slowly burning out cast shadows all around me and Nudge, who I could tell was getting tired because she had stopped talking a while ago. I considered waking up my brother or Iggy to take her watch, when Fang came out of nowhere the way he used to due. His face was expressionless like usual too, but it did have a have a faint trace of sorrow to it.
"Nudge, go get some rest. I'll take over with Angel," Fang said softly, sitting down next to me.
Nudge sleepily stood up, walked over to Max, who was fast asleep in Dylan's arms, and fell asleep a foot or so away.
Fang and I sat there for a couple of minutes in silence. Fang's mind was clouded. Not a single clear thought was going through his mind. So, I just sat there staring at the dark forest that we decided to sleep in for the night, we being the Flock and Fang's gang.
"Angel? Do you think there's any hope?" Fang muttered distantly.
"To take down the Doomsday Group? I don't know. I guess maybe. We've taking down bigger things," I replied.
"No, that Max will forgive me? Leave Dylan?" he asked, sounding even farther away.
I didn't know how to answer that. I looked back at Max. She looked so peaceful and happy.
"She is here isn't she?" I answered.
I was only seven! What'd he expect from me?
Fang frowned. "I really love her."
"Then why did you leave?" I shot back quietly.
I saw tears form in Fang's dark eyes. "I don't know! I was stupid! I was just trying to do what was best for her and the Flock…"
"Well, that backfired? Didn't it?"
Fang chuckled, as a tear rolled down his cheek. "You have to be the most mature seven years old I've ever met."
I gave him an annoyed look. "One, I'm the only seven years old you know, and two, you grow up pretty fast living the way we did, Fang. You know that. I was only two when Jeb took us from the School. I couldn't even walk then."
Fang looked at me with tears rolling out of both of his eyes and down his cheeks, and I felt his thoughts clear up. All his thoughts were memories. One was of him staring into Max's non-barfed chocolate colored eyes. Another was of him sitting in a cave with Max and having their first kiss. They were all of him and Max together.
I put my hand on Fang's shoulder. "I'm sorry."
"No, Angel. I'm sorry, for leaving Max, you, and the Flock. I shouldn't have. I should've stayed."
I rolled my eyes. No duh, he should've!
Fang pulled me onto his lap and wrapped his arms around me.
I think that's the closest thing to a hug that Fang's ever done.
We sat there for a while, just sitting there by the fire with the star-filled night sky above us.
I closed my eyes and let a few of my own memories of seeing Fang and Max together. In some of them, you could even see the love in Max's determined eyes and Fang's dark eyes.
Why'd Dylan have to go and ruin that? I grumbled in my mind.
Fang began to stroke my hair. Curious to why, I looked for an answer and his mind. I got one. Fang's memories were no longer of just him and Max. Now, they were of either him and me or Max and me, starting off from when we were still in the School when we were little to Total and Akila's wedding.
I leaned my head against Fang's chest and let out a brief yawn.
"Angel, you can go to sleep. I can handle it on my own for a while."
Due to exhaustion that came practically out of nowhere, I soon fell asleep like that –me on Fang's lap with his arms wrapped around me in a protective way, while Fang stroked my hair- just as the sun began to rise.
A\N: What'd you think? Did you like it, hate it, think it was lame? Reviews are awesome! :)
