Just Worried
When Dr. Grace Foley woke up, it wasn't because of the beeping instruments surrounding her or because of the nurses, who hurried around outside her hospital room. No, it was a kind of familiar presence, which woke her. She opened her eyes and spotted Peter Boyd, who was just on his way to leave the room.
"Boyd", she called with low voice.
He turned around immediately. "Grace… umm… I didn't want to disturb you… Just want to know, how you feel", he stammered.
"I feel better. Thank you!", she answered. "Won't you take a seat?" She looked to a chair next to the door.
Boyd moved the chair closer to the hospital bed and sat down. His eyes screened her face. She looked so pale and tired, but strong. It was different to her look during her battle with the cancer. Nevertheless he was concerned about her state of health.
"What do the doctors say?", he wanted to know.
"They say, as far as I am a good girl, I will return soon." She smiled at him and felt sorry for his remorse. So, Dr. Foley decided to change the topic. "Spencer told me, that you solved the case."
"Yeah… yes, we did. It was a bit surprising at the end, but finally we got to the bottom of it."
She shook her head. "I never expected that she had done it. We used to be so full of ideas and ideals. All was about love, peace and non-violence. And they were so in love. Everybody could see it…"
It was one of these moments he wished to put his arm around her, to hold her tight. After her illness a lot of things had changed. He knew that she was strong, but his desire to protect her from any harm had grown since.
"Grace."
"Yes."
"You love this Murray guy, don't you?"
Grace looked up. She smiled again, when she answered: "I was in love with him, yes. But he changed so much. He isn't anymore the guy I was fallen in love with so deeply."
They both kept silence.
„Are you jealous, Peter? ", Grace finally asked.
"No... Just worried, I would say."
