About pain and love

Astra died and it hurt like hell. She was her aunt, her family, and she was gone. But it was easy to accept. Because she could get angry with Hank and download her sadness with anger and rage.

But then the truth came to light and Alex collapsed in his arms, tears running down her cheeks, she couldn't get angry with her. She embraced the pain of her sister and mixed it with her own. Because that's what they do. They're there for each other, always.

Kara knows that Alex would never hurt her intentionally, and that killing Astra was an act of war, the decision of a soldier. She knows that Alex has been punishing herself because that decision caused her pain.

But right now, hours after knowing the truth, while she watches Alex distracts herself in her laboratory, Kara realizes something else. Alex's pain wasn't there just for her, but for the two of them. Alex is mourning too.

So although Kara has never been aware of the interactions between her sister and her aunt, althought she has never had the chance to witness a conversation or seeing an exchange of glances between the two of them, Kara knows.

"They fell in love, didn't they?" she asks Hank, who remains at her side in silence.

"Love doesn't mean the same thing to everyone" he answers, serene but certainly saddened for the agent he considers a daughter. "But some people… some people change your life forever".
