He was lying naked on the ground beside her out in the open for anyone to see, but he was sleeping peacefully as if he didn't have a care in the world.
As if he wouldn't have to go face them that morning about what happened the night before.
With her.
Kara felt guilty. It had been so easy to just free herself the night before and release her inhibitions about what was happening. But it was morning now.
The night had ended an hour ago and the sun was in the sky, representing what they had to face when they went back to New Caprica. They had to face the outcome of the decision they made last night, the decision to love each other.
Kara felt a heavy sinking feeling in her stomach. He looked so perfect, peaceful. His nudity showed his chiseled abdomen and exquisite form. After the night that had experienced together, the way his body curved and angled was familiar. She reached out and touched his chest, stroking his soft and smooth skin.
She felt confusion tearing at her. She didn't know why she deserved this man beside her, his love, his devotion. She had basically sent his brother, whom she had loved, to die. He didn't blame her... He screamed to the sky his love for her and she allowed herself to scream hers for him. She knew she loved him, but she didn't deserve him.
She didn't deserve a good man.
She quickly got dressed again and with one last look at the man she had spent the night with, she hurried back to New Caprica. She knew what she had to do. She had to settle for the man she deserved, the man that could never hurt her because she didn't love him.
