Ratigan was writing a list of items that Fidget, his henchbat needed to steal from the toy shop with a quill pen and went to wake him up. His first couple attempts, he called his name gently, which weren't very successful because Fidget stayed asleep. The third and final one really got Fidget up and running! "Fidget, what's the hurry?" Ratigan asked, "I have the list right here."
With an embarrassed smile Fidget turned around to grab the list.
"But that's good you're awake," Ratigan said with relief.
"Oh, why?" Fidget mumbled.
"What was that?" Ratigan asked suspiciously.
"Nothing. I mean, well why?" Fidget said, shrugging his shoulder as he smiled his embarrassed smile once again.
"That's what I thought. You are going to steal some items for the toy queen and get the toymaker's daughter."
Fidget was too tired to put his mind into focus, so he crawled onto the ground, taking a snooze.
"Ugh," Ratigan said, rolling his eyes. He tapped him on the shoulder. That didn't help. "Fidget!"
"What now?" Fidget grumbled.
"What am I going to do with you?"
"I don't know." Yet the bat had a sneaky feeling on what Ratigan would say next. He fell asleep again before anything else happened.
"Not again," Ratigan growled under his breath. "Why does this have to be so hard for him to stay awake?" he yelled.
Fidget remained in his spot and giggled.
"Well, he can sleep through almost anything," Ratigan hissed to himself with a tone of wickedness. "What about thunder?" Without letting his guard down, he shouted as he banged a couple of symbols, "WAKE UP!"
Fidget aroused before his boss. "Huh?" he gasped.
"You're not so bright and alert tonight, are you?"
"Well, I guess not!" Fidget shouted. "What do you have to say to that, huh?"
"You're really trying my patience! What do you have to say to that?"
"I don't care!"
Losing his temper, Ratigan dragged him to a room and closed the door behind him. "Alone at last. Now let's cool ourselves off." The rat set the little bat on his lap and booped him on the nose. "Let me know when you're ready."
With pleasure, Fidget took this in, yawned, and fell asleep on his lap.
"Could this night get any worse?" Ratigan groaned and recognized a smile in Fidget's face. He thought it looked cute. Against his better judgement, he sighed and said, "Alright, let me know when you're ready to get up and go." He rubbed Fidget's back and scratched him behind the ears.
The End
