IDIL's Note: Hey all! This is another one of those Blondy Yondy dedicated fics put out for our favourite Hokage's birthday. Yes, this is angst...I'm sorry. The final one will be happy, I promise! Enjoy! :D And yes, I did get my inspiration from The Dark Knight.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Minato finally understood this all too well. He was currently sealing the Kyuubi inside himself, furiously absorbing its demonic chakra, and he realized that over time, it was becoming increasingly difficult. He had successfully managed to seal about half of it inside of him, but needed to stop periodically and give his mind a good shake; he was starting to forget who he was.

All he could see before him was red. Fiery red. Flames flared up everywhere, consuming anything and everything around them, their waves tinged with black, fuelled with fury. Kill them…Kill them all…Just release your power on them…Kill them all…

His eyes flickered back and forth painfully from desperate blue to malevolent red. It was taking all his will power to just seal the damn beast away, to not let it consume him. Minato glanced over at the child wailing beside him, and for one horrifying moment, he thought he would crush the little whiner's windpipe. But he couldn't. Not when that little whiner was his son. The damn fox however was unrelenting in its evil. Before he could even hint a guess at what was happening, his hands had preformed the seals, and the Kyuubi started to gravitate towards his son.

This separation allowed him to completely get a hold of his mind once more, and he watched, in horrification, his son's eyes flicker the same way he felt his had; blue to red. Good to evil. Peaceful to demonic. With all the power he has left, he pulls desperately at the Kyuubi's tail, wanting nothing more than to get that damned fox away from his precious son. It takes him a while, and during that while the Kyuubi smirks and pushes itself deeper into Naruto's belly, but finally Minato manages to pull the fox back to his own seal.

When the sealing is finally over, and Minato falls over in exhaustion, knowing death will come to take him soon, he can't help but realize how true that saying is. Behind him, flaring from his back, are five dark tails, each trying to lash out and destroy everything in sight. The Kyuubi's attempts at destruction however are futile, and Minato is aware that it is just a matter of moments before that half will cease to exist all together. If he were to still be living after this sealing, if his body were alive after it rolled unceremoniously off Gamabunta and fell to the ground with a sickening crack, if he were to have any chakra left, he surely would have not been the hero. He would have become a temporary Kyuubi vessel. He would have gone beserk and killed even more shinobi, caused even greater chaos, destroyed Konoha either further. No, if Minato were to live, he could no longer be seen as a hero.

He would be the villain.
