REUNION

Author's note: This is my first attempt at fanfic, also was put together very hastily. Any criticism, reviews etc are welcome. It contains spoilers for OotP. Basically, I'm trying to effect some closure for myself here. Any fellow closure-seekers are welcome to email me.

"Late as always, hm, Sirius?" Lily's reproof lost most of its effectiveness thanks to the affectionate smile on her face.

"Ah, Evans, you've been keeping track of time till I got here...what's the matter, finally realized that Prongs had nothing on me?"

James snorted as he walked up to his friend and pulled him into a rough embrace. "Dream on, Paddy, dream on. Though I do hear that Polyhymnia Parkinson's single..." Sirius faked a very sudden, very massive cardiac arrest and then laughing, the three friends walked into the living room.

Sirius groaned and moved his head, taking in the dusty gray floor and stone walls of the rather large, dungeon-like room. Wincing slightly, he stood up, thankful that he had not suffered more than a few bruises. Where the hell was he anyway? Looking around, he saw that there was a door behind him, slightly ajar. Walking gingerly over to it, he pulled it open and found himself looking into a cozy room, it's ceiling dancing with shadows from the merry fire crackling in the hearth. Odd, Sirius thought, walking in and inspecting the comfortably worn couches, the full bookshelves, it looked like James and Lily's place in Godric's Hollow. But it couldn't be...unless.... "....Sirius?" He swiveled sharply at the familiar voice. "Lily? I...what..." "...Late as always", she smiled, though her smile was tinged with sadness.

"Sirius." James Potter came over to his wife, putting an arm around her shoulders.

"Lily, James..." Sirius' voice was hoarse, broken, " I...I'm sorry...I've failed you...I've failed...." his voice died down to a whisper, barely audible, " I failed Harry." Lily Potter took his callused hands in her own softer ones, "You failed no one Sirius. No one. Thank you for" she swallowed, her eyes filling with tears, " for being our son's godfather."

James came over to them, his voice low with emotion, "Padfoot, it's time for us to go."

"No!" Sirius' voice was panicked. "No! James, Lily...don't...please! I can't lose the two of you again!"

James Potter smiled reassuringly, but not without a trace of grief. "You too, Paddy. You're coming with us. We waited for you, old friend." And the trio walked out together.
