A dark-haired man with pale complexion;
And a bandolier of bells across his chest.
His revered title is known as Abhorsen,
And his job is to put the Dead to rest.
He lives in a land divided by The Wall
Where magic dwells in the Old Kingdom.
South of The Wall is Ancelstierre
Where the Charter magic doesn't come.
The daughter of Abhorsen
Lives in this magic-less place,
And though she's lived for eighteen years
She knows little of her homeland or mother's face.
Sabriel is the name her father gave her,
And the name she will soon be losing.
For her father's spirit is trapped in death,
And Abhorsen's path is not her choosing.
She must take her father's place
In her quest to find and save his soul.
But though her task seems too be easy
Kerrigor does all he can to put a stop to her goal.
This creature that was once a man
In a time two hundred years past
Has risen to break the Great Charter Stones,
And be free from Death's clutches at last.
To do this he needs Abhorsen's blood,
But he is protected for a short while.
While Kerrigor grows stronger every day,
Sabriel's job gets more difficult with every mile.
With the help of a Free Magic being named Mogget,
And a Prince who should have died long ago
Sabriel finds the place where her father's body lies,
And discovers the identity of her vile foe.
Kerrigor will never die
Until his original body is no more.
Hidden in Ancelstierre beneath a cairn,
Sabriel journeys to fulfill this final chore.
The body is well protected
By Free Magic and evil spells,
But with the help of many Charter mages
Kerrigor will be defeated by Abhorsen's bells.
With a magic silver ring,
And Ranna, the littlest bell,
Kerrigor is finally bound in one form,
And will sleep forever because of the spell.
