She took a deep breath, inhaling the familiar scent, curling further into the pillows as a slow grin crossed her face. She loved this place, loved the soft cotton sheets, the dark pillowcases, loved everything about it, but most of all she loved the fact that his scent was embedded into everything here, it permeated the room and brought a smile to her face.
That wonderful mix of his laundry detergent, Irish Spring soap and PS Cologne, mixed with that tang that was just him. It couldn't be described as anything but him. It was his own personal scent that reminded her of exactly what that bed was used for.
The raw personal scent that was him and nothing else. Combined with all the other things that made him smell so good. Even at work when he lost part of it to the awful smell of the chemicals and the sterile smell of the scrubs, every time she got close to him, there was still enough of that wonderful smell that made her want to drag him someplace and not let him go.
They say scent is the sense most closely tied with memory, and she had to believe it. It was a smell she couldn't forget. A smell that reminded her of great things that had happened between them, of soft kisses on her lips, the soft hair that covered his chin brushing her as their lips met. The smell that reminded her of passionate nights spent in bed. Of cuddling up on his couch saying nothing at all, merely being, breathing.
Breathing in that wonderful scent of him. She buried her face further in the pillow as she tried to fall back asleep. It was far too early to get up, and the strong scent was so comforting to her.
