The waves had softened, as the sun had set.
He grasped her hand, and entwined his fingers within hers.
She took her other hand and gently slid it across his jaw, towards his mouth.
He started to speak
Yet she quickly covered it with a delicate finger
"Shhh do not speak."
The clock struck midnight
She had to leave
She gently let go
But he grabbed her, by the forearm
And pulled her close.
He laid his right on her delicate back, and the left he entwined with her right fingers.
He whispered in her ear
She smiled
It turned cold
He held her close
She could feel his warm breath absorb into her pores, creating them as one.
They held each other closer.
And she knew she couldn't leave.
A firefly landed on her shoulder
As one did on his
They glowed within the darkness.
He touched her face
She flinched, yet felt extremities of being safe, this was her haven
In his arms
And the fireflies flew together
Circling
Entwining
Becoming one
And they did the same
As the Sun had set along the shore.
