Expiration Date-Season 6 Episode 16

Kensi was troubled by Deeks' expression when she left the Mission. He was on the edge of crying about Thapa, but he wouldn't do it in front of her. He was like that. He would never let his feelings rule him, no less show them to her. She was thinking about their night out with her friends and this night that was totally different from the last. They had their first official fight today and she felt bad about that, given the things that happened later today.

She put the key to the lock and she entered her apartment. The first thing she noticed was Deeks' t-shirt that he left few days back. He said that he wanted to have some clothes if he needed when they were called to work, so that he won't have to go back to his place first, and his work second. She took it in her arms and thought about those beautiful cornflower blue eyes that were so sad…

Deeks took off right after Kensi, but he needed to stop for a second before he went to his apartment. He parked the red Malibu in front of the morgue. He buzzed the door and Rose opened the door for him. He explained his reason for visiting at 11 p.m. and she let him in.

Deeks entered in the morgue and he searched the gurney that held Thapa's body. Rose left him alone with his friend. Once Rose left, Deeks let all those tears he was holding back to pour from his eyes. He cried hard and he held Thapa's hand asking for a way how to deal with his death. He kept thinking about his wife and kids that lost their husband and father. He thought about their last conversation and about the expiration date. He knew that all of us had an expiration date, someone sooner than later, but it wasn't Thapa's expiration date yet.

But, God had other plans for Thapa.

Deeks watched at, now the pale face of Thapa and he thought of all the wise things he said that helped him and Kensi move on.

"Thank you brother for all that you've done for me. Thank you for your tips and advice. I know that I can't pay my debt to you, but I want you to know that I owe you for the rest of my life. I'll remember you forever and I'll tell my kids how brave their Uncle Thapa was and how he saved their Uncle Sam's life, losing his own. You weren't supposed to die today brother, but I guess your expiration date has come. Rest in peace, my friend. I'll leave you now. See you on the other side, someday."

Deeks wiped his face and left the morgue. He put the Malibu in gear and he left for his apartment.

There, he noticed that something wasn't right. He checked the door: it was unlocked. He pulled out his SIG and he pushed the door open. He checked every blind spot in the living room. That's when Kensi jumped out of the dark and scared the hell out of him.

"Are you out of your mind?!" He screamed.

"What's the matter with you?" She responded.

"I should ask, what's the matter with you?" He continued. "I come home to see that the door of my apartment is unlocked and some ninja lady is in there scaring the hell out of me."

"I wanted to surprise you not to scare you Deeks. I figured you could use some company."

Deeks looked at her mismatched eyes that held a soft whisper of "I love you" in them.

"I know that you said that we should go out every other night and that today wasn't the day for that, but I felt like I had to come to you. You lost your friend today and I am here to help you grieve."

"Thanks."

"You don't have to thank me Deeks. You're my boyfriend and I'll do everything that's needed to make you feel better."

Deeks smelled the air. It smelled like something was on fire.

"Something's burning out here."

"Oh my God Deeks! The oven!"

She ran to the kitchen and she took out the dish she was preparing for him. She baked meat with potatoes. It was totally burned.

"I guess you borrowed that recipe from Martha Stewart's site." Said Deeks, smirk forming on his face.

"Deeks, don't mock me. I tried to make you a dish to ease your pain. You know how I am. Whenever I feel bad, I heal my pain by eating."

"I know you Kay-Kay."

Both of them laughed.

Deeks opened the window in the kitchen so the smell would evaporate quickly.

"I guess your plan B was takeout."

"No, Actually I hadn't thought of plan B. I thought the dish would be baked perfectly and there wasn't any reason why I should've had a plan B in the first pla-"

Deeks interrupted her talk with a kiss.

"Thanks again Kens." He said. "Thapa said something about the home when we talked in the Firing Range today. He said that home wasn't the place where we live, but that the home is a feeling. The place where we are with our loved ones, in their mind, in their heart. I realized that my home will be with you. I don't care if we live at my place or your place. Home is here and now, with you Kensi. You mean the world to me. You are my home. And because of that I know that I'll never be homeless, no matter where I am in 10 or 20 years. No matter where we are in 10 or 20 years."

Kensi was touched by Deeks' words and she stared at his eyes while she held hands with him. She noticed that there was anger mixed with sadness in them. She knew how much Deeks cared about Thapa and how much the loss had hit him.

At that moment Kensi realized too, that her home is where Deeks is.
