Elena laid back on her bed, wallowing. Deciding she couldn't swim around in her own thoughts anymore, she reached for her phone, searching through her contacts until she found Caroline's name. Dialing, she waited until she heard her friend's voice answer in a whisper. "Why are you whispering?" she asked. "Ty's sleeping." she said, stepping out of the bedroom and then talking at a normal decibel. "I'm good now."she said. "What's up Is something wrong?" she asked. "I…I talked to Stefan today. He helped save Jeremy…and then he locked Damon up so he couldn't hurt Jeremy." she said, biting her lip. "Well…that's good, right?" Caroline said. "Yeah…but he won't let me see Damon…and…he was just so…so…." "Mean?" Caroline finished. "Yeah." Elena admitted. "He's hurt, Elena. You said you weren't in love with him. You told him that you were in love with his brother." she said. "I know, Caroline. I just…I just didn't expect him to lash out. That's not who he is. Except that he said it was…and that I just didn't know how he acted when he wasn't in love with me." Elena said, and braced herself for the rant she knew was coming. "He said he wasn't in love with you anymore?!" Caroline shrieked. "Yup." Elena said, putting a hand to her forehead. "Noooo. You guys are epic. You…you give me hope! No. This is not okay." she ranted. "Caroline. It's not that. I just…didn't expect it. I'm glad he's over me…it's just weird. He's right…I really don't know him at all. I mean not outside of us. We met and BOOM we were in a super serious supernatural relationship. We didn't really get time to get to know each other separately." "Noooo. You know him, Elena. He's just…masking his pain. You have to fight for him" she argued. Elena sighed. "Care, I don't want to fight for him. I want to be with Damon I I just…needed to rant. I know it's not fair that I'm upset…but I am. I just needed to let it out." she said. There was a shuffle on the other end of the phone and Elena heard Tyler's sleepy voice, asking Caroline to come back to bed. "I have to go. But this conversation is not over, Elena Gilbert. Meet me for lunch tomorrow?" she asked. "Sure." Elena sighed. "See you at the grill at noon."
