Sollux and Dirk lingered before the convenience store before heading towards Dirk's house. "Sollux," Dirk whispered, anxious. "I need you." Sollux turned to see that Dirk was red-faced. "What?" he asked concerned. Dirk looked up at Sollux. "I think I'm in love..." he said with the tiniest voice. Sollux's eyes widened. "With who?" he asked. "Jake..." Dirk replied as he looked down in embarrassment.
"Then tell him!" Sollux said with some force. He couldn't believe how meek Dirk was acting in the face of love. Dirk turned away. "Human romance is different from troll romance," he said sad.
Sollux facepalmed himself. Oh right. HOMOSEXUALITY. That annoying thing. Sollux went up to Dirk and laid a hand on his shoulder. "Tell him," he said softly. Dirk turned to face him. There were tears dripping down his face. "But you know he likes girls..." he said, his voice breaking.
Sollux looked at Dirk. He knew what he was going through. The pain. the anguish, the fear of loving someone who doesn't love you back. But he also knew the feeling of the ultimate matespriteship once courage overcame fear. "Tell him, Dirk. You will only suffer if you don't. And what is that thing you humans say?..." Sollux paused for a moment to think. "Oh yeah. Y.O.L.O."
Dirk looked up at Sollux. His heart was clenched with the fear that he would make any type of relationship with Jake impossible if he confessed. But Sollux was right. He had to tell Jake. If he got rejected, then it would have been for the better. Jake deserved better. But he hoped. He could only hope...
