The Backup Plan By: Me
It was his fault that they were the way they were.
That's all he could think of for the first 16 years of his life.
They gave their sanity, a fate worse than death, to protect a useless nobody.
"It's all my fault." he told himself daily. "I'm not worth it."
His parents were to forever stay in the insane ward until they died.
They didn't remember anything, not their names, not English, not even him.
He was raised by his grandma but he reminded her of her son and daughter-in-law too much.
At school, he was beat up and bullied by foes and colleagues alike;
Teachers, adolescents, girls, boys. He never fit in.
He was brave, oh yes, but lacked the self-confidence and brains to become remembered.
He kept all his pain, jealousy and depression locked inside his heart, which threatened to burst.
It was his upmost dream to have friends that were loyal to him.
One year it all changed. The most popular boys and girls had left;
others were dropping out like flies as well.
The world had turned into a place worse than hell;
everywhere he went, darkness had taken over.
Through the troubles and calamity of those terrifying times,
he achieved his dream. He gained friends; people who cared.
They united to fight; rebellion was at hand.
He couldn't hide the truth any longer. When he told them of his past,
he became their fearless leader. He led them on missions;
they failed and were caught. He was beaten and tortured;
he still has the scars to show.
After a while, the criticism and taunting of his adversaries started to eat away at his soul.
He was dying. He was saved by some news. "The backup plan is you."
There was a reason why his parents were insane.
There was a reason why he was left in the dark; alone and deserted.
He was the one who could end all the suffering.
He was the one who could guide his friends into battle and be successful.
It was him. And he would do it, or die trying.
He couldn't and wouldn't think of what the consequences might be.
Whatever they might be, he knew they would not be easy, painless or fun.
He wouldn't be joining them anytime soon, that was sure.
In fact, not until hell froze over.
