Will was following him. It was frustrating only being able to work on the numbers from the insurance office and the home of his Wren identity. But Will knew he was hiding something and Harold couldn't risk losing the only family he had left. After 3 days and in the middle of work hours, John sends him a text:
Act natural
30 seconds later, his assistant shows John into the office. John's body language is different. He has a congenial smile, quite different from his usually sly disposition. And he's actually wearing a tie.
"John! To what do I owe the pleasure?" Harold says, his expression perfectly friendly but with a hint of tightness in his voice. He gets up stiffly and shakes Johns hand before they part ways and sit down. He's sure John means well but he's more than a little irritated, to understate the matter. Recklessly showing up where Will can see them could be more than disastrous for the both of them.
"I understand you're being followed," John says as if talking about the weather. Across from him John is reclining in his chair comfortably, leaning back at an angle with a leg resting on his knee. "And that he currently has sight on you, but not sound," he finishes casually.
Under the circumstances, he can't risk making Will even more suspicious by forcing him out of the neighboring building.
"Oh? And I assume you have some sort of plan?" Harold asks with a false smile. With that John gets up and ambles over.
"I might," he says halfway sitting on the desk.
Pulling him up by his tie, John puts their mouths together in a mostly chaste kiss. John keeps his mouth closed until he bites the corner of his bottom lip and licks his mouth open before pulling back.
Luckily, Harold can be a very good actor. It's saved his life on more than one occasion. Flushed and barely masking his surprise he asks, "You call this acting naturally?"
"I've wanted to do that for a long time Harold," John says. "And if he wants to know a secret, give him a secret."
"And scar him for life," Harold huffs with amusement.
"Take me to lunch," John says.
