Summer's Day

Drowning in memory

Sharp and sad

Benevolently beautiful

There is no escape

From these thoughts

Shifting and swirling

Breaking my mind

And heart

That day

In burning summer sun

Seeing you kiss

You never asked me

How it felt

You were my best friends

So, I hid

In that white rosebush

That we played in

As children

Not crying

Floating

Beyond tears

Beyond fears

We can still laugh

We can still play

But I carry the memory

Of that warm summer's day
