A/N: This kind of got away from me. I've had a lot of ideas over the past month and I haven't been successful in writing them out, so if this is a little bit of a mess, I apologize! This is mostly fluff. The title comes from the song, "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Please leave a review and let me know what you thought!
The stick that could change Annabeth's life is only about six inches and it's pink and white in color. Her hands are shaky and she's a sweaty mess. Percy will be home from work in two hours, but as soon as Piper implied what might be the reason she's throwing up at five in the morning, she just knew. She can't wait, so as soon as she hung up with Piper she ran to the closest drugstore. And now here she is, sitting on the bath tub rim waiting an endless five minutes for the results to pop up.
They have been married for almost four years and at 25, their ready expand their little family. They've been trying for over a year already and Annabeth was starting to worry that her feud with Hera was affecting her ability to have children. She'd be lying if she said she hadn't lost hope. Each test that came up negative torn her apart a little bit more. Percy did his best to help her through it. He pretended like it wasn't an entirely big deal and that he just knew it would happen eventually. Despite that, Annabeth knew it broke his heart too.
She should've waited for him to get home, but she can't. She prays to her mother, to Percy's father, even to Zeus to please, please, just this one thing. They just want this one thing.
"Wisegirl? I got off early. I was thinking we could go out to eat or something." she hears the front door close so she sprints out of the bathroom, down the hall, and to the front of their small apartment.
Percy sees her covered in sweat with messy hair and wild eyes and panics. Throwing down his coat and bag, he rips out Riptide.
"Annabeth, are you okay? What's wrong?"
"Percy, the test, it's almost done!"
"Oh, shit!" he runs to the bathroom with Annabeth behind him.
It's in his hand when he turns to face her.
"Percy, what is it?"
His face is impossible for even her to decipher.
"Percy," her voice trails, "It's okay. You can tell me."
He makes eye contact with her, his sea green eyes filling with tears. "Annabeth," he breathes.
"Percy," she takes his face in her hands, her eyes tearing up at the sight of him, "Baby, we can try again."
But then he smiling. He's got tears running down his cheeks and he's laughing. "Oh my gods, Wisegirl."
Her eyebrows scrunched, confused. Then her eyes come to focus on the test with the little, pink plus sign on the small screen.
She glances at Percy, his face spread wide into a dorky grin, then at the test, the back at Percy.
"It... It's... Positive?" her jaw is practically at the floor.
"Yeah, yeah it is," He kisses her forehead, tears still cascading down his cheeks.
"Percy, oh my gods, we're gonna have a baby!" She can't keep it together anymore and she's sobbing and laughing all at once.
They fall into each other, a mess of kisses, I love yous, and tears.
They fall asleep that night, exhausted after hours of discussing names, genders, and room decor, Percy's hand resting on her stomach the entire night.
They make an appointment to get an ultrasound the next week. She's only five weeks along.
(She remembers the night it happened too. Percy was wearing that button up shirt he knows she adores, and when they went out to eat dinner. They couldn't even make it past the entree.)
"She's only a tiny cell right now, you know," Percy says.
"She?" Annabeth's head tilts in curiosity.
"Did I say she? I let that slip?"
"You did," she giggles, "I thought you didn't care about gender?"
"I don't," he shrugs, "I just don't like calling it 'it' either."
She laughs, "That's true. But we can't call it her either. What if it's not a her?"
"I have a plan."
"What is your plan, my love?"
"We shall call it Baby."
When she looks at him, giddily talking about his baby that she's carrying, she sees him being twelve again, excited about his mother's blue cookies and eagerly introducing her to Annabeth, proclaiming her to be the best baker/mom in the world.
(In her humble opinion, he's right.)
"Baby it is then," she grins.
"PERCY, BABY WANTS SOME PICKLES AND BABY WANTS IT NOW."
She is five months pregnant and she is miserable. She pees every five minutes and she's hungry all the time. She's not even that big but, man, does she feel like she waddles. Sometimes she stares at Percy and sees how easy everything is for him and it makes her want to hurt him.
Despite these feelings, she wouldn't have it any other way. She's grateful for this, no matter how much Baby takes over her body.
She waddles out of their bedroom and into their living room where Percy is on the floor wearing a headset, his fingers widely moving over a controller and intently staring at the screen.
"Percy. Please."
"Okay, okay, ugh. Jason, Leo, gotta go, guys. Daddy duties."
Her hearts melts a little and her lips twitch up in an almost smile. She's never seen a man so excited to be a father.
It takes him an hour to finally get her her pickle. He says he was on hunt for the perfect pickle.
(Actually, he was baby shopping but he's a little bit embarrassed to admit that.)
If she were to be completely honest, the pickle was well worth the wait.
It really was the best pickle of her life. Or it was her hormones. Honestly, who knows?
She's the size of a basketball. At least, it feels that way. Percy's birthday is around the corner and he wants Baby to born on his birthday more then anything.
("Annabeth, don't you see? It's a convenience for you more then anything. It's perfect. You just keep those legs super tight until midnight of August 18th.")
Quite frankly, she doesn't care when Baby is born. She just want Baby out.
The bag is packed by the door filled with mostly yellow clothes. The gender still isn't known because they want to be suprised.
(Annabeth's idea. The anticipation is killing Percy.)
It's four in the morning on August 14th when Annabeth awakens to the worst cramps she's ever experienced. She waddles out of the bedroom to the couch so she won't wake Percy, even though she's tempted to. She's a little nervous and whole lot scared but decides to wait it out until Percy gets up for his shift at the aquarium in two hours. Except the problem with that is the pain is steadily increasing and a half hour in, she's at their bedside tapping his shoulder softly.
"Hmmmm?" He peers at her through sleepy green eyes. His hair is sticking up in funny places and maybe she'd laugh at him if it were not for the fact that his child was waging World War III in her uterus. When he realizes what's going on he leaps out of bed.
"Oh my gods, is it happening?"
"Grab the keys, grab the bag. Baby Jackson is ready for their debut."
Violet Jackson was born at 8:38 A.M. on August 14th with a mess of black curls on her head.
She weighed seven pounds and five ounces and was made of pure perfection in Percy's eyes.
It's about ten in the morning now and Annabeth is sleeping. After a whole lot of convincing, he was able to get Sally to go get some sleep too. He was the only one unable to sleep. He is holding his daughter, his heart melting at each whimper and breath she takes. She's the spitting image of Annabeth, he decides after glancing from his wife to his daughter.
She's smiling in her sleep when Percy reaches for Annabeth's hand and whispers to them both, "Home is wherever I'm with you."
A/N: This ending was tough to write haha. It feels a little rushed, but i could go on forever with this idea! I decided to have the baby be born on the 14th as a little tribute to my boyfriend. We've been together for fours years now and he likes to read my stories so I threw in a little something for him :) I hope you enjoyed, because even though it was a little tough to write, I like it. It's not my best, but still. Just a quick word: all of my stories are oneshots. They will not be continued and they are marked as complete because they are. I have yet to write a full on story because those intimidate me heavily. Maybe I will eventually but if I do it won't be a continuation of my previous work. Anyway, thank you so much for reading and leave a review and tell me what you thought!
