"I can't believe he had me killed by a flunky!" Lindsey yelled.

If she still had breath, Lilah would have sighed. Here we go again, she thought.

"I trusted him! I believed him! He's supposed to be the good guy! I risked my life to help him and he had me gunned down like a dog by a lackey!" Lindsey's face was red. Lilah could see the blood oozing from the holes in his chest, staining his shirt.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. Angel's a hypocritical bastard who conned you into doing his dirty work, then had you killed by the court jester," Lilah said tiredly.

Lindsey ignored her. Lilah had given up wondering if he was truly aware of her presence a thousand years ago. She listened in resigned silence as Lindsey continued his all too familiar tirade, ranting about redemption, double standards and Angel's hypocrisy.

This was it. Hell. The real hell. Not some fundamentalist's wet-dream of fire and brimstone and pitchfork toting demons. No, this was the real thing. Her punishment was to be stuck in a featureless room with a man she'd never liked, listening to his endless ranting, nothing changing, nothing to look forward too, no hope, trapped forever. Hell.

Lindsey was still blathering on. Goaded beyond endurance, Lilah snapped. "Well it's your own fault, you moron! You knew damn what he was when you took him up on his offer. A vampire, a mass murderer. Did you think that Angel's precious soul, the soul that was forced on him as a punishment, made him any less of a demon? I can't believe you were dumb enough to fall for the whole 'noble champion' spiel. You knew Angel was an egotistical, selfish, hypocritical bastard before you joined his little crusade. You were there in the wine cellar when he locked the door on us. For god's sake, he cut off your hand!"

Lindsey quieted. He rubbed his right wrist as he turned to face her. For first time since they'd been relegated to this place Lindsey seemed to see her.

Something stirred within her. It almost felt like . . . hope. After all this time, had she finally broken through Lindsey's monomania? Could it be possible that the two of them could find a way out of this place? Or had God, Satan, The Powers That Be, someone, anyone, decided that they'd been punished enough, that it was time to allow them out of hell? Lilah's heart swelled with joy.

Lindsey looked through her and yelled, "I can't believe he had me killed by a flunky!"

The End.
