This is a poem i wrote when my family was moving from Germany back to the US. I was extremely mad at my dad and blamed his involvement in the Army for me having to leave all my friends. I was so scared that i was gonna be without friends again and i really couldn't handle it. When we moved i actually hated my dad for at least a month(can you believe it??). Until i made new friends(who are also my best friends i have ever had) i didn't understand my dad's reason for moving again. Truth is if we didn't move my dad would never have gotten promoted and we would have never moved back to the US until my dad retired. Then i realized the sacrifice he made to move us back to our country. He had to be deployed 2 more times to Iraq for 15 months each so that we could move and stay in one place for more than 3 years(a first in my life). the original was less happy at the end but once i made friends in Virginia(were i am now) i updated it to this.
Enjoy =]
Layers Of Friendship
Friendship.......what does this strange word mean???
a mutual alliance?? a union of interests?? no.
Friendship is something more, something so valuable that no one person can obtain it.
An idea garnered by people who crave support and spurn the feeling of singularity.
So, What is friendship?? Its definition is as broad as a term ever conceived yet simple enough for an everyman and yet......is there anything more seemingly secure but holds such a precarious balance of emotion. While both parties are better off for the union, it remains secure....this can change faster than the wind. A word.....A look......A thought.....A careless mistake and this thing we call friendship can be shattered into pieces to small to restore. Forever broken and forever changed. if all of this is so?? Why do people enter this tenuous union. One word....TRUST and then another....LOVE. Two words that mean so much to many people. True friends..hard to come by, harder by far too keep If i live a thousand years i suspect this will never change. There is little to lament in this fact though. for those who call each other friend have something truly special. Something that enriches and sustains people more than water and bread. In the end friendship cannot be defined by only one thing. It is made up of a collage of things that bring unique people together.
Greater indeed are the pleasures that are shared.......
