Author's Note: Written for the "Colorful Phrases" Competition on the HPFC forum. My prompt was "green with envy." This will probably make more sense if you've read Friends with Benefits.

"So," says Remus.

"So." Sirius's voice is as dead as the look in his eyes.

Remus suppresses a shiver. "You know James proposed to Lily, I take it."

"I know."

They sit in silence for a long moment. They're in the Three Broomsticks, but it's not very crowded at this time of night. In fact, it's late enough that Rosmerta is shooting them annoyed looks. Remus wouldn't normally be here this late, but he was looking for Sirius and here he is.

"When did she become Lily instead of Evans?" Sirius asks abruptly. "When did she stop being a pain in the arse and start being someone we're supposed to care about?"

"You don't care about her?" Remus keeps his tone neutral.

"That's not what I mean, Moony."

"Sorry," says Remus. He rests one arm on the table, observing Sirius's brooding expression. "You're envious."

"Oh yeah, absolutely green with envy," says Sirius sarcastically, "really horrified not to have the girl of my dreams."

Remus rolls his eyes. Sirius is just being difficult. "I didn't mean Lily, idiot."

Sirius stands up so quickly that he bumps into the table, knocking over his half-finished butterbeer. Remus dives for his wand and clears up the mess before Rosmerta can come over and yell at them, but Sirius doesn't seem to have noticed.

"Don't talk to me about that," Sirius hisses. "Don't even think about it. Do you hear me?"

Remus rises slowly, because he doesn't like Sirius looking down on him like that, especially not in anger. The disinherited Black heir has the ability to be truly frightening.

"Okay," he says carefully.

Sirius storms out without another word. As Remus watches him go, it occurs to him that maybe Sirius didn't realize his werewolf friend knew.
