Well, this is what comes out of a summer afternoon in Iowa. Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own RENT; never been called Jonathon Larson in my life.
I Had a Feeling
Maureen walked down the busy sidewalk littered with homeless people and vendors on her way to surprise Joanne at work. It was their one year anniversary of dating. Damn it she thought, as it started snowing. She drew her arms tighter around herself, why did I wear this damn tank top and skimpy spring jacket? She neared the building, frozen and yet heated with excitement at finally getting to surprise Joanne. She entered the warm building and completely ignored the secretary's questions. She entered the elevator and pressed the 3 button. The doors closed and up she went. When the doors opened, another secretary waited, this time she stopped. "Hi Claire," she said pleasantly.
"Hey Maureen, I'll tell Joanne you're here."
"No, I want to surprise her; will you tell her a client is here?" she asked with her signature pout.
"Yeah, Shh, I'll call her now. Don't give yourself away." Claire pressed the one button.
"Yes
Claire?"
"You have a client waiting, can I send them in?"
"Oh, yes, go ahead," Joanne hung up. Perfect, thought Maureen.
"Thanks Claire, she doesn't expect a thing." Maureen walked to Joanne's door, turned and gave Claire the thumbs up, and knocked on the door.
"Come in," Joanne called.
Maureen opened the door. "Hi Pookie!" she exclaimed.
"Maureen, holy shit, what are you doing here?" Joanne said. "I'm supposed to be meeting with a client."
"That client would be me, I have you to myself for the next half hour," Maureen said excitedly.
"I had a feeling that you would surprise me today. After all, it is our first anniversary."
"And we have a half hour all to ourselves..." Maureen said seductively.
"Honey Bear, you shouldn't have," Joanne said, yet she complied willingly to Maureen. "Now, what do you need a lawyer for?"
"My girlfriend decided to go to work today,"
"Is that so?"
"Yes, and it's our first anniversary; can you assist me?"
Joanne pulled Maureen on top of her. "This help?" Maureen nodded eagerly. They kissed passionately. "What a milestone," moaned Joanne happily.
The End
I told you it was a summer afternoon in Iowa; anyway, please tell me what you think. I know I'm completely crazy, at least for the time being. Criticism is more than welcome!
