Rainbow Dash snapped up as she heard her cell-phone ringing. Instinctively, she darted across the room noiselessly, snatching the noisy device off the floor and pressing it into her wing, where the feathers muted it somewhat as she slipped out of the room. Once clear, she pulled the phone out and looked at the screen. Fluttershy. At two in the morning…
She pressed the button and pushed the phone to her ear.
Honey why you calling me so late?
It's kinda hard to talk right now.
Honey why are you crying? Is everything okay?
I gotta whisper 'cause I can't be too loud
She glanced at the closed door behind her, at where Soarin slept, his soft snores echoing through the cloud door, along with mutters of 'Pie'.
Well, my boy's in the next room
Sometimes I wish he was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
She sat down on the cloud, sleep-addled head still working its way through everything after Fluttershy said her name.
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
Another glance over her shoulder, and a tear rolled down her face. Soarin had been her partner, and lover, since she joined the Wonderbolts, but Fluttershy was still her first love, even before flying.
It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And, yes, I've dreamt of you too
And does he know you're talking to me
Will it start a fight
No I don't think he has a clue
Yep, still snoring. And now she could faintly hear the much louder snoring coming from the big red stallion in the background of Fluttershy's cottage. She pressed her forehead to the floor, trying to focus on Fluttershy's words, not her voice.
Well, my boy's in the next room
Sometimes I wish he was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
She smiled and pressed the button on the phone again before dropping it in her saddlebag and scribbling a quick note for Soarin. 'Official Elements business,' she wrote. She slipped out the door and mashed the cloud back into place before leaping off the balcony and diving at the ground, fast but not fast enough to make a Rainboom. Levelling out at the ground, she raced towards the cozy little cottage, mostly using the speed from the dive, and barely flapping. She reached the cottage and landed on the grass in the front yard, hooves throwing up little clods of dirt that she mashed back into place without a sound, or at least, one she could detect.
The door opened, and Fluttershy slipped through the crack, somehow seeming even smaller in the darkness as Rainbow took her in her hooves and floated into the air, "I gotcha. We're far enough away, you can stop hiding…" She was cut off by Fluttershy's mouth grabbing hers.
And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
