A/N: This came from a prompt in a Sam/Cam community. It's not been Beta'd, so all mistakes are mine.
Sam made quick work of unpacking her things when she got to Atlantis. It was a process she knew well; all military personnel knew it. She wasn't the first nor would she be the last to be transferred. All things considered it was the one thing she really didn't like about military life. That was probably why she was so good at it. The last box was in front of her on the bed; finally. She had been interrupted several times by people wanting to welcome her; she was almost expecting someone to come to her door with an emergency now that she was almost done. Thankfully she was left in peace. Halfway through the box Sam came across the last thing she ever expected to see; she hadn't packed it, and was worried about who could have gotten into her things. Pulling the machine free of the things around it Sam found a note attached. It said simply 'Play me.'
"I'm not sure how long the batteries will last, but you have the smartest scientists in the universe there; I'd imagine someone can rig up a recharger. Hopefully the music will remind you of home, of us. Enjoy." Cam's voice was deep and sure. Sam felt the tears gathering at the corners of her eyes. Several seconds of dead air, the sound of a throat clearing, then a guitar was being played. Sam didn't immediately recognize the song; but the voice was as familiar as her own. As the words of a love song drifted over her Sam let the tears fall. She considered for a split second opening the 'gate; but what would she say, what would she do. The song shifted to a slightly more melancholy tune but it was still Cam singing. They weren't scheduled for a data burst for several days; this would give her a chance to decide. She flipped the tape automatically when it popped out, desperate to hear what he'd put on the other side. She wasn't disappointed.
"By the time I see you again you should have had a chance to listen to this; so you'll know how I feel, how I've felt for over two years. When that time comes I have a question I'm going to want to ask. Until then I'll stop assaulting your poor eardrums with my voice. I love you Sam. Don't ever forget that." The rest of the tape had soothing classical music, most of it cello. That night Sam fell asleep to the sound of Cameron serenading her; it was the best sleep she had gotten in years.
