"Live long and may the force be ever in your favor, Mr. Potter." - Gandolf, The Chronicles of Narnia
Once upon a time there was an orphaned boy who saved the world. I'm sure I've heard this story plot beforeā¦
Star Wars
Harry Potter
Superman
Batman
Moses
Frodo
Spiderman
So so many more.
When you turned 11, did you wish for your Hogwarts letter? Did you want to discover a super power, use the Force, be super smart or super rich? Anything to set you apart or make you special? How did that influence the type of person you are today?
Are you inspired to be a hero. Do you strive to make that world you know and love a reality. Do you want to be like Bastian Balthazar Bux and dictate how the never-ending story will be written. Or will you simply invent a force field, a phaser gun, time travel, or the next Google Glass because you were inspired by the stories of your youth?
"It's hard to talk about the importance of an imaginary hero. But heroes ARE important. Heroes tell us something about ourselves. History books tell us who we used to be, documentaries tell us who we are now but heroes tell us who we WANT to be." - Stephen Moffat
The hero's journey is that path to greatness, but it isn't an easy path. It has inspired me to strive for greatness and not to limit my imagination. I know that I can change the world, I just need to work hard in order to accomplish my goals. It teaches us to be our own heroes and make the world of fiction OUR reality.
"If the path before you is clear, you're probably on someone else's." -Joseph Campbell
