Sophie sighed and snuggled closer into her husband's body, savouring his
warmth. Howl grunted and turned his green eyes to hers.
"Hello", he whispered, nibbling her ear.
Sophie gently kissed Howl, draping her arms around his neck, keeping her eyes locked with his.
"I love you", he murmured, "and the best thing that I ever did was to meet you. You are the best thing in my life, please don't ever leave,"
Sophie gently ran her hands over Howl's chest, down his arms, to meet with his hands. He took them and drew them to his lips as she answered him.
"Howl, how can you ever think of me going away? I love you, and proved that on our wedding day".
He laughed softly remembering the ceremony, which had only been the day before. They stayed like that for a while, watching the sunrise from the window. It was all too soon when they heard a knock at the door.
"Ignore it", Howl whispered, bending down to kiss Sophie passionately, but the knock persisted.
"I think that you should answer it", Sophie said, chuckling after the eleventh knock.
"Do I have to? There's something else I'd much rather do" Howl said, raising an eyebrow suggestively.
"Howl!" she exclaimed, smiling shyly up to her newlywed's face. Howl grinned, got out of the bed and put on a robe before nearly ripping the door off its hinges in the process of opening it. Michael stood there, a wary expression on his face.
"The king sends his apologies but you are urgently needed," said the boy, who looked like he was ready to run.
Howl gave an exasperated sigh and turned back to Sophie.
"I suppose you should. I knew something like this was bound to come up," howl closed the door on Michel, who was looking shocked to see Sophie wearing nothing but the bed-sheet wrapped around her slight frame.
"Yes, it was, wasn't it?" Howl enclosed Sophie in an ardent embrace and kissed the top of her head.
They helped each other get dressed, stealing kisses along the way. They eventually made it down the stairs to find Michael, Califer, and the whole king's livery all looked very impatient. At the entrance of Howl and Sophie, the whole room burst into applause. Sophie turned a beetroot red, and Howl grinned, waved a hand and retreated to the bathroom where he spent the next two hours doing his hair.
Sophie waded through the mass of eating, talking people, trying to find out what was happening. Half an hour later, after many nudges, winks and cat- calls, Sophie was no closer to her target than she had when she started. Eventually, finding no other option, she turned and walked to the hearth at to Michael and Califer.
Michael, as she knew he would, avoided her eyes, and Califer simply smirked at her.
"So," he asked, "how was your night? Sleep well?" Sophie rolled her eyes and was only prevented in her reply by the entrance of Howl from the bathroom,
He leaned down to kiss her with more than the usual passion and dramatics, putting on a show for those in the room. The whole room erupted into cheers and hoots.
"Oh, Howl, stop that," snapped Sophie, more than a little breathless from the kiss.
