As I stroll through the upstairs hallway to the water fountain, I glance into each classroom. There's no particular reason why I do this, it could be that I'm nosy and I want to know what my peers are up to, or maybe I do it because I'm searching for a familiar face. I have to do a double take right then, the reason being that sitting in rapt attention in the honors math classroom, is Joe. It's amazing how he can sit in absolute silence without a sheepish expression on his face. His lips are slightly parted, with slightly glazed innocent brown eyes. When I think about it, there's no way the teacher could have his full attention. I force myself to keep walking, although Joe's face stuck in my head like the old gum under a desk. I think moments like those fuel my habit of leaving science "to get a drink" at the exact time each day. So maybe (however strange it may be) I could glimpse of him one more time.
